Master Planned Community : Planning

Mission Sports Complex

In order to proceed with a Master Plan for the community recreation amenity, the site needed to first receive Agricultural land Commission approval for ALR exclusion.

The agricultural capability of the land has degraded over the past decades due to poor soil drainage caused by residential development separating the property from Okanagan Lake. New Town coordinated the design of a collection area wetland with ecological enhancements on adjacent lands. The resulting drainage improvement improved the agricultural potential of the inland property providing an incentive for the ALC to allow exclusion for the recreation area.

The site Master Plan locates the aquatic centre, ice rink, fitness facility and numerous baseball and soccer fields. These facilities have been implemented by the City of Kelowna in accordance with the Plan.
